WHITE STREET COMPETITION

Key Concept: Undulating Roof, Cultural Hub, Revitalization of Historic Building

The building’s design is centered around a wave-like roof element that stretches from east to west. This “wave roof” is inspired by the sand dunes of the Mongolian Gobi Desert, as well as traditional Mongolian dance and contortion. The main goal of the volume planning is to preserve the existing façade while integrating it with the new design. The six blocks of the existing building act as supports for the new structure, with the main entrances located in these areas.

The main volume components include commercial spaces for shops and offices, two 600-seat auditoriums, one conference room, and open gallery spaces for exhibitions. To add decorative interest, an elliptical auditorium is integrated into the continuous form of the building.

In the basement levels, the second basement will have parking for 300 cars and technical rooms, while the first basement will house an underground shopping corridor. On the ground floor, there will be entrances and service areas.

The second floor will feature a food court, coffee shop, and retail spaces. The third floor will have an open gallery, terraces, and an exhibition hall. The fourth to seventh floors will have viewing rooms, and the seventh to thirteenth sloped floors will be designated for offices. This design concept aims to create a seamless blend of old and new, providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing space that respects both the historical context and contemporary needs.
